India may be called upon for peace keeping in a neighbouring country
– Indian Defence Minister
India may be called upon to maintain peace in a neighbouring country, said A.K. Antony, Indian Defence Minister, addressing the 42nd annual event of the military studies and Analysis organisation in New Delhi.
The Indian Vice President Mohamud Hameed Ansari, the Foreign Affairs Minister Pranab Mukarji also participated in the function. The Defence Minister said, that India might be requested to keep peace and stability in a neighbouring country. Hence, India is keenly observing the affairs of that country. We have to execute our duty well in such an eventuality. Therefore India will have to strengthen the defence capabilities.
Indian influence is formidable in Asia. Expectations of other countries towards India are great. The responsibility too should be increased to commensurate with the expectations.
India bears a responsibility to fulfil such expectations to the best satisfaction of all. This compels India to build up its own defence capabilities, said A.K. Antony.
Terrorism has long been a threat to India. India feels taking it up as a challenge. The borders of terrorism extend to international borders. Funds for its expansion also move internationally. In this context it is difficult to finalise the root cause of the terrorism, said the Defence Minister who never mentioned in his speech, which is the neighbouring country he was referring to.
