The Chief Justice has said that the military check points in Colombo and other places do not serve their purposes. He pointed out yesterday that an LTTE suspect who was recently arrested in Negombo had allegedly passed through 12 check points.

The Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva was commenting on a Fundamental Rights Violation petition submitted by a person from Panadura, stating the police withheld his driving license. The Chief Justice said that the checkpoints are meant to provide security and not to withhold driving licenses.
