“I am not afraid of threats by the LTTE and I will continue to work for the people who are threatened by the LTTE”, said EPDP leader and Minister Douglas Devananda.

Joining the committee stage budget debate in Parliament today (Nov. 29th), he commented on the failed LTTE attempt to assassinate him amid much desk banging and cheers. Although the LTTE dreams of killing me by sending suicide bombers, the truth never dies, MP Devananda said. He added that yesterday’s twin bombings were an attempt to fracture harmony among the communities.

An attempt by TNA MP M.K. Sivajilingam to speak at the end of Devananda’s statement was drowned by the standing ovation to the EPDP leader by JVP parliamentarians. At this point, the Speaker said that Sivajilingam should be given a chance to express himself, as he too, is a parliamentarian.

Paying no heed to the Speaker, the JVP MPs continued to silence the TNA MP with their din.
