The whole world awaits the initiatives of India in Sri Lanka’s peace efforts – President

image Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapakse has expressed his view that the whole world expects India to take initiatives in solving the ethnic problem of Sri Lanka, said IANS news service.

The stability and prosperity of both India and Sri Lanka are inseparable. It is because of such a bond, I am repeatedly requesting India to contribute lavishly towards the solution for our ethnic crises. We request India to assist us in protecting democracy from the threats of terrorism. We require the cooperation of India to prevent weapons being smuggled into our country via Trincomalee and Jaffna sea areas. A certain section of the Tamil population is being misguided and is not in favour of peace efforts. We specifically request the Indian Tamil leaders to guide these misguided elements.

When I first met the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, I made a promise that Sri Lanka would not give any of the anti Indian forces a chance to use its land against India. India is the first country to ban the LTTE. We appreciate its stand considering its internal crises. India helps us in many ways including training and supplying equipments like radars. I have always said that India can greatly help us by contributing towards a permanent peace. This is being repeated by a few at least now, said President.
