The recent action of the US government against the TRO is not an action taken against the Tamils of Sri Lanka it is only against the LTTE. The US still reiterates that a negotiated political settlement should be found to fulfil the aspirations of the Tamils, said O’Blake the Ambassador of the US in Colombo.

The US ambassador said this during the Press briefing to explain the reasons for the freezing of TRO assets.  The raising of funds on behalf of the LTTE and maintaining relationship with the LTTE network had been established. The persons involved in the above activities are being interrogated. The fact that this Organisations (TRO) had been maintaining administrative and financial ties also had been established.

The American section of the TRO was involved in procuring explosives, telecommunication equipments and other types of devices for the LTTE. Therefore the TRO has been classified as per ordinance No. 13224. Accordingly the US government has frozen the movable and immovable assets of the TRO. This is not an act against the Tamil people.

The US government continues to reiterate that a negotiated settlement should be reached for the ethnic problem of the country.
