The government has announced that the fishing ban in the east will be lifted very soon and several million rupees have been allocated for the development projects of fishing industries in the east. Now after the release of the east from the LTTE clutches, the eastern fishermen could engage in fishing without any interruption, said Minister Felix Perera in a press conference held in the Fisheries Ministry.

The eastern fisher folk faced so many difficulties so far but there will be no problems for them in the future. The government has decided to grant all facilities and relief to the eastern fishermen. Also the government has to put up new ice rooms to store the fishermen’s harvest and to market them, he said further.
