Kilinochchi town 15 km away: Army

Sri Lanka’s security forces are just 15 km away from the rebel capital of Kilinochchi town, military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara as saying today.
He said the government forces had made significant gains in the past few weeks and the military’s next target would be Nachchikuda where the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) maintains a big naval base.
The capture of Nachchikuda would end the LTTE’s sea operations in Sri Lanka’s northwestern and western waters, Brigadier Nanayakkara said
