KILINOCHCHI: MULANKAVIL, the second most powerful administrative base for the LTTE terrorist outfit in the KILINOCHCHI. district, marking another milestone in non-ending advance of the troops, came under the command of Army this afternoon(14) giving another blow to the LTTE.

This area remained the most central coordinating unit for Tiger terrorists to carry out their urgent administrative work, conduct clandestine conversations attended by top LTTE leaders, to evacuate their injured Tiger carders into various other LTTE–controlled places, to coordinate sea movements, to maintain a high frequency communication network and recruit new cadres until it was cleared of terrorists.

The playground in the central of MULANKAVIL served as the most popular venue for LTTE ceremonies such as MAHAVIRU DAY and PONGU TAMIL.

Similarly, the major LTTE communication tower when brought under the troops deprives the terrorists of communicative links.

Large acres of cultivable lands of the farmers in the area were seen forcibly used by LTTE terrorists for their profit making or feeding purposes.

Strategic significance of this land made terrorist fighter cadres resist Army’s entry for two days that experienced heavy gun battles.

In addition, Air Force bombing on well-identified LTTE targets in the area assisted the advance of ground troops.
