Minister Mervyn Silva has told the Peliyagoda Police that he asked for the cameras of the Sirasa TV crew at a recent official function, as he was worried the footage of himself would fall into the hands of the LTTE, said Police Media spokesman, SSP Ranjith Gunasekera.

A team from Peliyagoda Police, led by a SSP, has obtained a lengthy statement regarding the incident from Minister Silva at his home on August 09th, the police spokesman said.

The police team has also recorded statements from two Buddhists monks who were present at the scene.

However, no arrests have so far been made in connection with the incident, SSP Gunasekera added.
