Public can’t put up with Mervyn until divine punishment - JHU
The patience of the public as a society is tested to the limit by Minister Mervyn’s Silva’s continuous harassment against media institutions and journalists, says the Jathika Hela Urumaya.
In a press release signed by the party propaganda secretary, Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe, the JHU condemns the conduct of Minister Silva and urges the President and the government to take action against him without further delay.
Noting that it is useless to advice or warn Minister Mervyn Silva, the JHU says that the public and journalists cannot remain patient until Gods punish him.
Adding that Minister Silva’s conduct has also led to the ridiculing of other ministers and civil organizations, the press release notes that attempts to stop him have failed despite this situation.
Such persons who harass the country, society, democracy and media freedom should either be restrained, or punished and removed, it adds.
If the law is not implemented against him, not only will it affect the public’s faith on the legal system; it will also disgrace the entire Rajapaksa regime, it further says.
The President should go beyond issuing statements to pacify the public and take immediate action to curb the unacceptable conduct of this Minister, the JHU says.
We hope that it is unnecessary to remind the President and SLFP officials of the measures that are required when a society is harassed by mad dogs, the JHU adds.
