Defending champion of the Malaysian Super Series Dilantha Malagamuwa had to face many hurdles before reaching the podium at the start of the 2008 series.

Dilantha driving his Porsche first was off in a flash starting from the grid two behind last year’s runner up Wira Dani Daim but manage to be in front.

Going into the first bend it was Dilantha but tragedy struck with heavy rains coming down.

He could not control the vehicle as he has not prepared to drive in the rain and had to return to paddock to change tyres to suit the conditions.

This mishap cost him dearly when starting the way behind almost at starting from the back of the grid.

Courageous Dilantha who is never to give up the event caught up the front runners one by one to finish as the second runner up to Wira Dani Daim who drove a Radical and Mok Weng Sun a Porsche.

After the event Dilantha was a happy man and said that “I proved that I am capable of retaining the title once again.

I would have beaten them by many lengths if I was not hampered by rain. It is that mattered for me. I will come in ready for the next stage and do my best to overcome the two rivals Wira and Mok.

Dilantha who has joined speed Sri Lanka team is placed third with 24 points after the first stage while his rivals Wira and Mok are in front with 50 and 25 points respectively.

In fact though Dilantha was in front from the first lap his team speed Sri Lanka had to give him a push start as clutch failed to respond effectively at the start.
