,  Anuradhapura Corr.North Central Provincial Chief Minister Berty Premlal Dissanayake has warned that he would take legal action against the Land Reform Commission to prevent it from allocating 100 acres of land to the NGO Seva Lanka Padhanama. The land earmarked for allocation on a long term lease and ownership is situated at Katupathwewa in Nochchiyagama.

At a meeting of the Provincial Council held on Tuesday, JVP member Anura Dissanayake revealed the Land Reform Commission’s plan and requested that the land be distributed among the poor farmers of Katupathwewa. Joining the debate the Chief Minister said that he would not hesitate to take legal action against the Land Reform Commission in the event of their giving the land to the NGO.

The Chief Minister also endorsed the view of the JVP member that this land be distributed among the farmers in the area. He revealed that the move has already been suspended.

The JVP member said that the same organization had on an earlier occasion received 25 acres of paddy land and another 25 acres of bare land.
