President Mahinda Rajapakse left for China
President Mahinda Rajapakse left for China for an official visit yesterday. A press release issued by the Presidential secretariat said the president will attend the annual session of the Boao Forum for Asian during his stay in China.
The Forum will be held from the 11th to 13th of this month. Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi received president Rajapakse at the Phoenix Air Fort in China today. The president was accompanied by Minister G.L. Peiris, Presidential secretary Lalith Weerathunga and Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohona in the tour.
The Boao Forum which was inaugurated in 2001 provides a plat form for leaders of the Asian Countries to exchange their views and build economic cooperation among the countries in the region.
This year’s theme of the forum is “Towards a Greener Asia”. President Rajapakse will make a special address at the Forum. Leaders from Pakistan, Chile, Mongolia, Qatar and Australia will attend the Forum which will be inaugurated under the patronage of the President of China.
The president looked into the final arrangements for the funeral of Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle before he left the country yesterday.
