1499 persons sailed on board “Jet Liner”, vessel with navy escort, which the Government arranged to transport stranded people, free of charge, between Kankesanthurai and Trincomalee. The vessel left Kankesathurai and berthed at Trincomalee on Thursday, 12-10-2006.

The Government has made effective arrangements to transport people, who are stranded in the Jaffna peninsula, due to the clashes between the LTTE and SLDF since August 11th at Muhamalai and the subsequent closure of A-9 Road. This is the first incident that a large number of people were transported on board in one vessel, navy sources said.
