President Mahinda Rajapakse instructs officials to immediately conclude development projects initiated in the Polonnaruwa district.
The president gave the instructions during a meeting held at Temple Trees to evaluate the progress of development programmes in the district.
Special attention was paid on improving sectors such as irrigation, husbandry, fisheries, education, health, water supply and electricity in the area.
Importance to protect historical heritage was also highlighted during the meeting. The Gamaneguma rural development programme is successfully in progress in 295 Grama Niladhari divisions in the Polonnaruwa district. The Gemidiriya programme is also underway in 26 villages.
The president pointed out that the high rate of Samurdhi recipients reported in the district is an indication of slow agricultural development in the area. 35 percent of the people in the district have been provided with electricity.
A speedy programme will be implemented to provide connections to rest of the houses in the area.
