170 Tamil PCs pass out from Eastern Province
One-hundred-and-seventy Tamil police constables passed out from the Eastern Province yesterday since the region was liberated from the grip of the LTTE last year.
More Tamils would be recruited for police duties from the Eastern region and the youth have shown a great interest in serving the police, according to informed sources.
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police North and East region and the Commandant of the Special Task Force Mahinda Balasooriya took the salute of the new police personnel at a colourful parade at the Kalladi Police Training School grounds yesterday. Among the 170 new Tamil police personnel 50 are Women Police Constables, Batticaloa police sources said.
The batch of Police personnel, all Tamils were recruited from the Batticaloa and Ampara districts. The new batch passed out after four months of intensive training in police duties and combat exercises, according to police sources.
The passing out parade was also unique as it was the first passing out ceremony to be held at the Kalladi Police Training School since it was set up on October 8, 2007.
