Army media spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara says 25 LTTE carders were killed in confrontations with the security forces in Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar and Welioya within the past 24 hours.

The army believes that five more terrorists were killed in a clash in Muhamalai, Jaffna. He added seven security forces have succumbed to their injuries and 12 others injured in these incidents.

The army, police and civil defence task force jointly conduct extensive security operations in Buttala and Yala. The Brigadier Nanayakkara also said 2,000 more youth in the area will be recruited to the civil task force. It has also been reported that army commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka has made arrangements to set up more security checkpoints in Buttala, Thanamalwila and Yala during his tour in the area yesterday.
