Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka vows to continue with military operations to liberate terrorist- held areas in the North and Wanni.
The security forces in operations conducted so far have gained control of a number of areas held by the LTTE terrorists.
The terrorists have opted to massacre innocent civilians in southern parts of the island in the face of their set back in the northern battle field. Their motive behind these killings is to make the government recall the troops engaged in fighting in northern areas. The Army Chief, however, stressed that military operations in Wanni and the North will never be given up despite threats whatsoever put forth by the terrorists.
He said Commandos and the STF are jointly conducting search operations in Buttala and Thanamalvila to trace terrorists hidden in the areas.
